| From Ed &Fran McLaughlin S/V AKA Savu Savu, Fiji We purchased a Masina Molosi 30 LED light assembly and installed it into a Hella tri color light. To install the light we removed the lens, took out the bulb holder, and removed the electric contacts under the bulb holder. All parts are metal and pull out of their plastic holders. we had to cut out notch in the pvc spacer that comes with the light to fit next to the wire inlet on the Hella base.We then caulked the spacer into the base using Selleys All Clear,a elastomeric caulking .Next step was to solder the wires from the LED to the tri-color wires, BE SURE TO OBSERVE POLARITY.. We also had to take off 2 small plastic spikes inside the lens to clear the LED spacer. The tri-color used to draw 2 amps and now you have to look very close to even see the needle move on the amp meter. Later when talking to Michael at BEBI Electronics and showing him the internal pieces from the Hella tri-color, the thinking was it would be easier to remove the bulb holder, discard the plastic insert ,and glue the LED to the bulb holder, then solder the wires to the terminals in the light base. Looking back ,that would have been the easiest method. We also have one of the anchor lights and several of the 9 led reading bulbs, our battery loads have decreased , no heat under the reading lights,a big plus in the tropics, and you can tell who in the anchorage has the LED anchor lights as they are the brightest .Some of the boats here in Savu Savu have not bothered to turn their anchor lights off, running 24/7 for the last 6 months that we've been here . WE LOVE LED's Thanks for the great products, we'll be back for more S/V AKA Haleiwa, Hawaii currently in Savu Savu ,Vanua Levu FIJI |
