At Bebi Electronics, we started actively working on a solution to the problem during the cyclone season of 2000 in Vava'u, Tonga. Although the first models of all of our 12 volt products were tested on our own vessel first, the first marine light which we sold was a 24 volt anchor light, which is now known the world over as our Namu!

After extensive experiments and testing, we proved that the simple resistor used in most off grid LED lighting products would destroy an ultrabright LED in less than 2 years. As a solution, we developed a low cost active current regulator. This regulator allows our marine LED lights to operate at full intensity within 'normal' battery voltage limits but without a negative impact on the lifespan of the light. And, unlike many regulation systems that are called '24 volt', you needn't worry about turning the light off during an equalization cycle; our lights are designed specifically to accomodate that!

As a long term (1981) live aboard and cruising sailors (1986), we KNOW that ALL electrical and electronic items on a boat need to be fully waterproof. Drawing on past employment experience for a manufacturer of materials for rocket nozzles and re-entry warheads, we developed the resin mix that is used for sealing our products. In our efforts to produce a durable product, the next possible 'weak link' is the attachment method to the yachts wiring. We prefer to sell lights with the fully tinned wire pigtails so that the connection to your boats wiring can be made completely water and corrosion proof.

We have learned that some people DO prefer the ease of installation into existing sockets. As a consequence, we are also offering the Kacau with gold plated pins for easier retrofitting our L.E.D. light replacements into halogen 2 pin (G4) sockets.

We have been using the Doe light for our own vessel, 'Shangri-La', for the past 5 years and are completely satisfied with the product. The first two Rinorino (the 12 volt version of the Kacau) were installed in our v-berth and is a marked increase in light over the Doe model. ^*The Kacau, who is DazzeLED by our LED lights, is what is known elsewhere as a petrel. This rarely seen bird (3 times in 150 years by ornithologists!), which feeds from the reef at night, is only to be found on Gau Island in the Fijian archipeligo. Rua ni Kacau simply means 'A Pair Petrels', even though the literal translation would be 'Two Of Petrel'. In yet another example of a 'communilect', in Eastern Cakadrove and the Lau Group of Fiji, this bird is called the Kaca'u.
